Act Now: Urge Your Representative to Cosponsor The Adult Day Center Enhancement Act

The Adult Day Center Enhancement Act will provide grants to adult day programs providing life enhancing services like rehabilitation therapy and social supports to people with neurological conditions or diseases including MS. Adult day programs also help families by offering caregivers respite from caregiving responsibilities. Since MS is typically diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, a critical aspect of this legislation is that emphasizes support for adult day centers serving younger persons with disabilities—a current service gap.

Ask your U.S. Representative to show their support by cosponsoring the Adult Day Center Enhancement Act today!

Support Adult Day Programs for Families Affected by Disabilities

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a multiple sclerosis (MS) activist and a constituent, I want to ask you to cosponsor the Adult Day Center Enhancement Act. I sincerely hope that you begin the 114th Congress as an advocate for all people affected by MS by supporting the bill as a cosponsor.

Multiple sclerosis (MS), an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted and there currently is no cure.

Because of the chronic and often disabling nature of MS, individuals can require considerable assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, eating, and accessing transportation. Family caregivers are the primary providers of this support for loved ones living at home. Adult day programs help families by providing respite from caregiving duties and/or time to remain in or return to the workforce.

For their participants, adult day centers offer life enhancing services, including medical care, rehabilitation therapies, nutrition therapy, and social interaction and stimulating activities keeping them actively engaged in their communities. The assistance offered at adult day centers can help reduce ongoing medical care, lower hospital costs and decrease the necessity for premature admission to costlier nursing home facilities.

The Adult Day Center Enhancement Act provides grants to adult day programs, with an emphasis on supporting programs that serve younger persons with neurological diseases or conditions including MS. Currently, few adult day programs are equipped to provide the younger disabled population with age-appropriate adult day programming.

Please show the U.S. House of Representative's commitment to supporting persons living with MS by cosponsoring the Adult Day Center Enhancement Act.

Sincerely,
