WALK MS STORIES

Why do YOU walk?

Members of the Colorado-Wyoming MS community have submitted their stories to share with you. We hope that reading about the courage, challenges, and optimism experienced by those whose lives are affected by MS will motivate you to register, volunteer or donate to Walk MS.

I was diagnosed with MS in May of 2002, but it took awhile for me to realize just how BIG this movement actually is.  The realization that there are so many people and countless volunteers all working to find a cure for me, and others like me really moved and inspired me to get involved.  In 2006 I started a Walk MS Team and later became a Support Group leader in Cheyenne, a Peer Support Counselor and an MS Ambassador.   I also volunteer for other events, like Bike MS, as much as I can.

I have been “controlled falling” at Walk MS for 8 years and counting.   Controlled falling is how I refer to the way I walk, but the fact that I am still walking is a testament to an attitude of determination, the treatments available, and support from friends, family and the MS Society. Walk MS has reinforced my philosophy of life with MS and the strength and resolve I see in everyone involved in this movement motivates me to keep “controlled falling” for as long as I am able.

Multiple sclerosis can be very hard to deal with on a daily basis but The Society has helped me get through many of the emotional hurdles related to MS and offered me positive ways to share my talents.  The opportunity to help others who are facing the challenges of living with multiple sclerosis has been better therapy for me than anything.
