Experience the Climb

Climb to the Top is a unique opportunity where participants get to Climb to the Top of New England’s tallest building, the 200 Clarendon Tower, while making a difference in the lives of those affected by MS!

Climb to the Top is held at 200 Clarendon Street, Boston, MA. When arriving at the site, enter through the doors on the corner of Clarendon and Stuart Street.

Parking: There is discounted parking across the street at 100 Clarendon Street, Boston, MA. You will need to present valid ‘participant’ identification, such as your participant wristband or bib number, to the garage office in order to receive the validation. Rates are $15.00 for all day parking.

Timing Chip:
Upon check-in, all participants who have met the $250 fundraising minimum will receive a timing chip with their participant bib. The timing chip will record your official course time, which is captured at the entrance and exit of the stairwells. The timing chips are disposable and do not need to be returned after the event. If you forget your timing chip the day of the event you will not be issued a new one.

Inclement Weather:
Climb to the Top will happen rain or shine! If the weather is wet outside, be sure to arrive in a different pair of shoes and change into your race shoes onsite. This way you won’t have to race in soggy shoes!

Baggage check:
All participants will be permitted to check all belongings. Bag check is available on the Concourse level and your bag will correspond with your bib number. Participant bibs have a tear off bag check tag that must be submitted to check your belongings. You must have a bib number to check-in or check-out your bag. Please do not check valuables (wallets, cameras, etc.), as the National MS Society is not responsible for any lost or damaged items. Check will close promptly at 11:30 a.m.

All rest stops will be supplied with water. After participants complete the climb, bagels, fruit and water will be provided in the lobby. It is strongly suggested that you do not eat any of the provided food prior to the race. Participants should eat a light, healthy breakfast before arriving at the 200 Clarendon Tower.

First Aid:
First aid will be available as needed throughout the stairwell. If you need, or witness someone who needs first aid, please call the emergency phone number on your wristband or inform a course marshal. It is strongly recommended that you climb with your cell phone. Please note that cell phones are only to be used in case of an emergency.

Course Description:
There are over 1200 steps. Each story has two flights of stairs, separated by a landing. The length of a flight varies, but most are ten steps each.

Rest Stops:
Climb to the Top will have at least two rest stops along the route. Please watch your footing at these locations to avoid slipping. The exact placement of rest stops will be made public closer to the event.

During the race, participants must pass on the right. As a safety precaution, the runner being passed must not block the other participant. DO NOT climb more than two participants abreast.

Try to avoid stopping in the stairwell. If you are fatigued, slow your pace and try to continue climbing. If you need to stop, make sure you only do this on a landing. Never stop or sit on the actual flight of stairs.

If you do not wish to continue to race, climb to the next rest stop and inform the rest stop captain that you can no longer continue. If you are unable to climb to the next rest stop or are experiencing a medical emergency, do not climb back downstairs! Call the number on your participant wristband and a medical team will come to your assistance. If you do not have a cell phone, ask a fellow participant to call for help.

Though you’ll climb 61 flights of stairs, the race will end on the 60th floor. From there you will walk to the elevators and return to the lobby. For the safety of other Climb participants do not stop once you exit the stairwell, keep moving until you reach the elevators and lobby.
