We hear the message everywhere: regular, moderate physical exercise is good for body, mind and spirit. Exercise not only reduces the possibility of other illnesses but it also helps to reduce stress and feel better. But what does this mean for people with MS? Fatigue, weakness, and lack of coordination are often everyday facts of life. The good news is that research indicates that exercise can decrease fatigue, improve walking speed and balance, and build endurance, strength, and cardiovascular health. It can also offset depression, anxiety, and anger.

Fit MS Wellness Challenge!

The National MS Society Utah State Chapter’s “Fit MS” is a 10-week initiative designed to increase the health and well-being of all people with MS statewide. Our goal is to turn simple lifestyle changes into lifelong, healthy habits. You will compete by earning weekly points for healthy activities based around the model of Mind, Body and Spirit. Fit MS will be designed to accommodate all levels of ability so don’t count yourself out!

When does Fit MS begin and end?

Fit MS Wellness Challenge will begin on January 12th and end March 20th.

What are the prizes? How will they be awarded?

Overall winner: Wii Fit

Wii Fit allows you to set goals and track your progress with daily workouts. Get fit with over forty activities and exercises, including yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance games. We are hopeful that this prize will be an incentive to all who wish to participate. It has been mentioned that this particular tool is not only helpful to people with MS but convenient as you can exercise in the comforts of your own home.

Area winners: One iPod per site.

Weekly Prizes: A weekly winner will be drawn for turning your points in every Monday by noon to Rachael Lyon at rachael.lyon@nmss.org or call 1.801.424.0112

We are so excited about this program and are hopeful that all people with MS will Join the Movement and take small or large measures to be healthier.
