BABY, WE WERE BORN TO RUN . . . IN THE MUD!
From Bayonne to Brick, from Stamford to Sparta, over 3,000 runners, 200 volunteers and thousands of spectators came out to Somerset to rock the root beer float edition of the 2018 MuckFest MS New Jersey.
You guys weren't messing around. Well, you were in the muckiest way possible. Janice Dean, MS warrior from Fox & Friends, got things rollin' in the first wave of the day with a perfectly executed mud angel broadcast across the nation.
With perfect mud run conditions, the course became a slippy, sloppy spectacle, starting with the muddy theatrics in the Muckin' Corral and Triple Pits to the final slapstick slog through Skid Mark and Belly Crawl at the finish.
Beyond the Big Balls in the festival area, muckers conquered the course and ran through an authentic Jersey "jungle" featuring a woodsy, pastoral setting that made many a mucker swoon and get reflective and whatnot.
Teams were kitted out with some amazing get-ups and team t-shirts, led by perennial Jersey powerhouses The Mucky Blues from our presenting sponsor Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, with over 200 team members, and Hermann Mudsters, the top fundraising team from Hermann Transportation Services with over 140 team members.
Led by the extraordinary fundraising efforts of the top individuals and teams listed below, MuckFest MS New Jersey runners and volunteers not only raised over $318,000, they helped push the MuckFest MS series fundraising total over the $30 million threshold! Your fundraising will help the National MS Society continue its funding of groundbreaking and promising research to wipe out MS.
Thanks to our stalwart volunteer crew. They received rave reviews from runners and their guests, who made it a point to stop by the volunteer tent to tell us how awesome you were! A special shout-out to first-time volunteer groups from the Interact Clubs at high schools in North Brunswick and Monroe.
Our frothiest of thanks to Shake Shack for providing the tastiest treat in the history of the universe. Seriously, those root beer floats hit the spot.
And thank you to Zarephath Christian Church for being a great event partner and site host, and for letting us get mucky in your backyard.
Thank you for coming out and making MuckFest MS New Jersey so memorable. We would like to thank all the runners, volunteers, spectators and staff who participated and supported each other this weekend. It is that spirit of support that inspires us to work hard every day of the year to support people living with multiple sclerosis.
There is still time to support the mission behind the “muck.” We've made incredible progress so far and we want to keep that momentum going after the event. Make a donation online and help us reach our goal.
New Jersey's 2018 goal: $462,420 Amount raised to date: $328,405.87
