From The MS Information Sourcebook, produced by the National MS Society.

ABLEDATA, sponsored by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research of the U.S. Department of Education, is a national database of assistive devices and rehabilitation equipment for people with disabilities. Assistive devices are tools or implements, ranging from electric can openers to wheelchairs, which make a particular function easier to perform. ABLEDATA provides a description of the product with price and company information. The database can also provide information on prototypes, one-of-a-kind or customized products, and do-it-yourself designs.

Database searches are free of charge. Additional assistance is available from information specialists via phone, fax, or mail. Fees for searches by information specialists are based on a cost-recovery system.

ABLEDATA also provides an online listing of resources relating to accessible housing and design.

Because the National Multiple Sclerosis Society does not evaluate assistive devices, we cannot endorse or recommend any of the products listed in this database.
