Peer Support Volunteers & Community Service Volunteers Needed:

Peer Support Volunteers provide educational information, short-term support and encouragement to individuals and family members managing the different aspects of multiple sclerosis.  Peer Support Volunteers must have been diagnosed at least one year and complete Customer Service and Information & Referral Training prior to serving as a support volunteer.  Strong communication skills and an excellent telephone manner are required.  Basic computer skills are helpful.

Program Support Volunteers work with NMSS staff on educational programs and events throughout the chapter and throughout the year.  Activities include but are not limited to day-of program set up and take down, registration, and various logistics assistance.  Times and locations vary dependent upon programming activities.

Information & Referral Volunteers provide assistance to individuals contacting the chapter regarding questions and / or issues related to multiple sclerosis.  Information & Referral Volunteers must complete Customer Service and Information & Referral Training prior to serving as a support volunteer.  Strong communication skills and an excellent telephone manner are required.  Basic computer skills are helpful.

Community Outreach Volunteers serve as representative for the Mid Florida Chapter at various community outreach events throughout the year.  Activities may include health fair, agency fairs and other community outreach opportunities.  Volunteers will man tables / booths, be able to answer basic questions and direct interested individuals back the Chapter office.  Times and locations vary dependent upon programming activities.

Community Service Volunteers (high school / college) can obtain necessary volunteer hours to meet graduation requirements.  Opportunities are available in a variety of areas including special events, office administration and program activities.  Opportunities vary throughout the year. 

Research Advocates serve as ambassadors throughout the community for the NMSSAdvocates provide presentations to community organizations, NMSS chapter members and other interested parties promoting current research activities being funded and supported by the NMSS.  Experience in professional speaking and access to a computer and e-mail are required.
