Biking to Create a World Free of MS
Michael Bowen has been cycling in the Bike MS 170 mile “Coast the Coast” ride since 1999. This year will mark Michael’s 11th year that he will ride. He began riding after retiring from a 36 year career as an engineer with the Port Authority. His intent was to start a hobby and stay fit entering into his retirement. In his first year Michael raised $1000 in the fight against MS.
|The very next year Michael would have a new motivation for cycling only one short year after riding in his first ride a close family member was diagnosed with MS. At the time of their diagnosis Michael’s family member was only in their 30’s and a parent to two young children. In the 10 years that Michael has been riding he has made many friends on tour. |
“I continue to ride for the MS Bike Tour because I want to help "make a difference" for a member of my family, quite a few close friends, and many thousand others who have been diagnosed and suffer from this dreadful disease. I want to continue to do everything possible on my part, to help people fight and live with this illness, and also to prevent more people from learning what it means to live with this disease”, says Michael.
Since that first ride Michael has formed a team to ride with - Bowen’s Iron Eagles. To date Michael has raised over $118,000. Last year alone Michael and Bowen’s Iron Eagles raised $22,000 and his goal to surpass that this year and raise $23,500. Click here to find out more about Michael and Bowen’s Iron Eagles
