DETROIT ISN'T MSing AROUND!
There are plenty of muck-lovin' cities around this country, no question. But Detroit, you guys went all-out on Saturday. From the fabulously festooned teams in their matching shirts and costumes to the muddy acrobatics and muck-heroics out on the course, Detroit is in a class by itself!
Over 2,000 muckers, 100 volunteers and thousands of cheering spectators transformed the beautiful Willow Metropark into a muck-wonderland of courage, camaraderie and carousing that would make many an epic poet search for the right words to describe the day.
Yes, it was hot, and humid, but that made the spectacular water landings at the Swing Set and the muddy dips in the Triple Pits all the more refreshing. It also made the celebrating in the Festival all the more sweet.
Thanks to everyone who stuck around after the run to hoist a few and play in the Festival. Speaking of hoisting a few, a special shoutout to team Mucked 4 Life, who closed down the beer garden in style.
OK, the World Cup ended in July, but after Detroit, we need to scream, "Gooooooooooooal!" because Detroit smashed its fundraising goal, raising over $225,000! This herculean fundraising effort was led by the Detroit team that put the fun into fundraising and the Motor into Motor City: Ford – Don't MS With Us!, led by the indefatigable Don Pijor, an MS Warrior, and Tiffany Pijor, longtime mucker and fundraising juggernaut. Don and Tiffany's 170-member team was firing on all cylinders, raising a mind-blowing $55,000 for the National MS Society; they are also, as of today, the top fundraising team in the country! Of that team fundraising total, Don and Tiffany raised over $37,000, making them the most dynamic duo ever. So, hats off to Don and Tiffany, and all the top fundraising individuals and teams who are fueling the next generation of MS breakthroughs.
We'd also like to salute and thank our presenting sponsor, Real Estate One Charitable Foundation and their awesome 51-member team, REOCF Real Muckers, who raised over $26,000. Thanks also to Mia and Camden King and their team, Kings of Muck, who flaunted their royal muckiness by fielding a 43-member team and raising over $11,000. And thanks once again to perennial muck all-stars, The Fighting Shamrocks, helmed by Rebecca Kuchar; The Fighting Shamrocks raised over $10,000 and brought not one, but two inflatable leprechauns to stand guard over their team tent.
Thanks to the Detroit volunteer crew who brought their A-game and helped create a memorable, safe and fun event for everybody from beginning to end. We couldn't have done it without you!
Thanks to all the muckers, volunteers and guests who traveled from near and far to be there on Saturday, with a special hat-tip to the muckers who came in from neighboring states and far-flung locales.
And a big thank you to Willow Metropark for being such a muck-tacular event partner. We love getting muddy in your big, gorgeous park!
Thank you for coming out and making MuckFest MS Detroit so memorable. We would like to thank all the runners, volunteers, spectators and staff who participated and supported each other this weekend. It is that spirit of support that inspires us to work hard every day of the year to support people living with multiple sclerosis.
There is still time to support the mission behind the “muck.” We've made incredible progress so far and we want to keep that momentum going after the event. Make a donation online now.
