Walk MS: Phoenix 2018

Team MA Takes on MS

Walk MS is an event that brings people together and helps raise funds to change the world for those of us affected by multiple sclerosis. MS is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. It is different for everyone, making it all the more challenging to solve. Today, there are treatments where there weren't any before, and the dream of ending MS is becoming a reality.

In February of this year, I experienced a scary episode of three long weeks of numbness and tingling throughout my entire body. While I hoped it was an easy case of Vitamin B12 deficiency, when it returned with a vengeance 4 months later that lasted over a month before improving, I knew something was really wrong. After having done what we all do and googling my symptoms back in February (for once, Google was right), it was in that moment when I felt it return in June that I knew MS would be a part of my story from there on out, and my life would be changed forever. Through things I never imagined I would have to have at the age of 27 like multiple brain and spine MRI’s, a spinal tap, a visual evoked potential test and more, science confirmed what my heart already knew – that I did indeed have Multiple Sclerosis. You never think something will impact you, until it does.

I ask for your support so that someday we will see a world where no one will have to hear the words "You have MS" like I and so many others have had to hear. Treatments have come incredibly far to make this a much more manageable disease and will continue to advance with your help. While the future may be unknown with MS, what I know is that with the support of my amazing family and friends and a lot of faith in God, this will not be something that tears me down but will instead be something that lifts me up to become an even stronger, more determined and faithful person. We all have a story, and now this is mine. To all of my people who have supported me with hugs, texts to check on me, words of support that brought me to happy tears, a shoulder or an ear to cry on, prayers, rides to appointments that took up hours of your days, surprise presents and understanding every step of the way, you are my why and you are truly incredible. I have been so humbled by your support and I wish there were more ways I could thank you. I am determined to do everything in my power to fight MS with ferocity, use this as a platform for good and change me for the better. I know that God assigned me this mountain to show others it can be moved, so let’s kick this thing’s butt!

Thank you for your support.

About MS

When you make a donation, you are changing the world for people affected by MS. Symptoms of MS range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million worldwide, and there is not yet a cure. Every dollar raised matters to those affected by MS. Thank you for your support.
