We're cycling towardtaking a step towardsfundraising to create a world free of MS.

Friends and Family of the Starwood / Go Johnny Go Team,

Thank you for showing interest in joining our fight to eliminate the terrible effects of multiple sclerosis. Whether you’ve been a part of our team in previous years or this is your first time inquiring about our team, welcome. As many of you know, the Go Johnny Go team, with the help of the Illinois chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, has been raising awareness and funds to fight MS for over 30 years. We initially came together to participate in the MS150 Bikeathon to ride with and raise funds on behalf of our leader/friend/brother/son Johnny Koys.

Johnny was stricken with MS in 1977 but he never let MS keep him down. Over the last 40 years, Johnny out-battled MS to become a successful newspaper journalist and editor. Between deadlines, he found time to train for the MS150 on his three-wheeled, arm-driven cycle. Through the years, whether the team was large or small, the goals were always the same: to raise funds to fight MS and to build comradery amongst friends and family. Fundraising and comradery will again be our goals in 2019 but we will be doing so without our leader, Johnny Koys.

This past November, Johnny passed suddenly of a massive heart attack. While the pain and sadness of Johnny’s absence are great, the need to fight MS remains. In past years, Johnny would physically lead us across the MS150 finish line. During this year’s MS Tour de Farms on June 22nd and 23rd, his spirit will be with us, whether we are dealt headwinds or tailwinds; whether we ride in sunshine or rain.

There are many ways you can take part in our team:
•    Join our team as a bike rider
o    First-time riders are welcome, as short 20- and 30-mile routes are available
o    Experienced riders will find the century route or the 150-mile route challenging
o    Team training riders start in mid-April, weather permitting, occurring two to three times per month until the event
•    Join our team as a volunteer, helping with ride day logistics
•    Donate money to the Go Johnny Go team
•    Become or find a corporate jersey sponsor. A $2,000 donation is requested.
•    Join our walkathon team, to take place in Grant Park on April 28th. If you’re interested in this activity, please email Pat Koys at patkoys5@gmail.com.

Again, thank you for showing interest in the Starwood / Go Johnny Go team. Your participation is a great way to keep Johnny’s memory alive. If you have any questions about the team or getting involved please email Bob Koys at bob.koys@heitman.com.
