MS. MEKA BEATS MS ON HEAVEN'S SIDE

Welcome to the MS Memorial Tribute 2020 page for Jermeakia "Ms. Meka" Adams-Abouo. On Friday, March 6, 2020, Ms. Meka won her nearly five-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis(MS) when she beat MS on Heaven's side.

This JAABEATSMS20 Memorial Fund established by her family serves as a vehicle for collective expression of monetary donations made in Jermeakia's memory for her Celebration of Life Service on March 13, 2020 to continue her legacy of love to help others facing Multiple Sclerosis.

The Family so appreciates and thanks all of those who offered, prayers, support, and expressions of kindness to Jermeakia and on her behalf during her entire journey with overcoming MS and now during this period of release.

JERMEAKIA KEPT THE FAITH AND FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT!

Almost five years ago in April 2015, Jermeakia fell and couldn't get up. That began a months-long journey of tests to find out what caused it and other symptoms.

With the care of health professionals at hospitals in Walterboro and Charleston, SC, by October, Jermeakia was on a great road to recovery despite having the most aggressive form of MS (Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis).

Ms. Meka successfully adjusted to her new condition and focused on not letting it consume her. Her second eldest sister, Veronica Adams-Cooper, took sick leave from her employer, Albany State University (Albany, GA), to help care for Jermeakia from April-December and through weekend care thereafter. The SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department provided services that retrofitted Jermeakia's home with a ramp and other amenities to accommodate her current and future states. Her employer, Verizon Wireless (VZW), also made accommodations as well. Her Facebook Friends would regularly get her updates on her monthly treatment and how many times she was stuck with the needle before they could insert her IV. All in all, over the next several years she thrived. Jermeakia would say, "I have MS; MS doesn't have me."

Early in the week of December 2nd, Jermeakia worked for the last time just as she was finishing up 20 years of service with VZW that included having an early career highlight of meeting and taking a photo with Actor Paul Marcarelli, the former, "Can you hear me now?", character in VZW commercials. Moreover, earlier in 2019 she was so excited about having earned a high, national ranking among customer service representatives, and she wanted that ranking to go up even higher in 2020.

However, beginning on December 7, 2019, Jermeakia faced the gravest and most severe complications from MS when she again fell and couldn't get up. Her suppressed immune system resulting from her MS medicine led to decreased ability of her body to fight an infection that led to Necrotizing Fasciitis, a condition that can quickly lead to death.

She bravely endured intense pain and suffering through multiple surgeries and long term care as medical professionals at four different SC hospitals in Walterboro, Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, and Columbia, worked tirelessly to save her life over this near, three-month period.

Keeping the faith, Jermeakia's goal was to return home to her family, friends, and especially work, as soon as possible. During this trying time, she was comforted by having her Matriarch Sister Alicia Adams Crute and Veronica and close friends Sharon Rivers, Shawna Moore-Fuller, Ciara Patterson, Brian Daniels, Ms. Vina Daniels, and others supporting her through a coordinated visitation schedule. She was also comforted in knowing that she had the support of her employer and the best quality of care through its strong wellness-benefits system.

Sadly however, Jermeakia passed away the day before she could see with earthly eyes her beautiful, 20-Year Service Award from VZW sent earlier in the week. Delayed by a personal bout of seasonal illness during the week, Veronica was too late in getting to Jermeakia's home to check the mail and get the award to the hospital before her transition.

SISTERS ESTABLISH MS MEMORIAL FUND TO CELEBRATE JERMEAKIA

The family has established a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Memorial Fund in memory of Jermeakia for those who wish to contribute to it in lieu of donations, cards, flowers, telegrams and travel.
It will have a more lasting way for financial contributions of family, friends, colleagues, and others to honor Jermeakia during her Celebration of Life, Legacy, and Love Service on Friday, March 13, 2020.

Donations received by Thursday, March 12, 2020, before 9:00 p.m. (EST) will be acknowledged at the service. Subsequent donations will be acknowledged through email or other social media.

Dearest Veronica and Family:
I didn't know Ms. Meka, but if she was anything like Sister Veronica, then she was an awesome individual.
Based on what I've read, she gave a good, strong fight--until she was called to her heavenly home.
May you find comfort in Ms. Meka's wonderful memories and in the way that she celebrated life. Please stay strong and try not to grieve--for Ms. Meka would only want smiles and joyous reflections.
Yours in Prayer,
Cynthia Bennett (Albany, GA)
